What was shameful wasn’t the way he loved me, but the way I loved him. He could never match what I gave him and deep down I always knew it I just chose to believe otherwise. So much for what we feel for someone can be one sided and yet we think that if we give that person more than they deserve, that somehow, it’ll change the way they feel about us. I trusted him, I believed in him, it’s a shame everyone else could see the trouble he was when I couldn’t. The irony is, he claimed he would keep me safe from the world, but what he should have done, was keep me safe from him.
